Consultant Biography
Professor Margaret Johnson is one of the UK’s leading consultants in Thoracic medicine, practicing at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth. She trained at the Brompton Hospital where she did her MD on Breathlessness. She has been working as a consultant in Thoracic (Respiratory) Medicine/ General Medicine and HIV/AIDS for over 20 years, has been the Clinical Director of Medicine and Medical Director at the Royal Free. She has just demitted as Academic Vice President of the Royal College of Physicians. She is now Clinical Director of the North Thames Research Network (NIHR).
In 2005 she was made Professor in Medicine at University College, London. She was Chairman of British HIV Association from 2004 – 2008.
Since her appointment at the Royal Free, she has been an active researcher in the field of respiratory infection, TB and HIV. She has published in excess of 500 articles in peer reviewed journals.
